Aunt Louise Comes to Visit by Katie Brewster

Aunt Louise visits twice a year, always dressed,
in shoes, bag, and hat to match.
And every time she visits, she brings the girls,
a very special snack.
 But this time she has forgotten it, or to the girls,
it so seems.

Language

This fun printable allows your littles to think about the planning stages of having a guest. Then there's a page for your little ones to write a thank you letter to their guest for the fun times they had.

Science

Aunt Louise wears pearls in the book. This mini unit study teaches your littles a bit about where pearls come from and includes several fun activities to help them remember.

Craft

Aunt Louise's Hat

Aunt Louise's hat is the stuff of Kentucky Derby. This fun and simple craft allows you and your littles to get creative. What you need:

• Lit Mama's Hat Template
• 1 12x12 sheet brown card stock
• 1 sheet craft foam in each color: purple, dark green, light green, yellow, brown
• Glue
• Scissors

What you do:

• Trace hat template onto card stock and cut out

• Measure length of hat band onto purple foam (you can make the band as wide or narrow as you wish)

• Cut out hat band and glue onto hat

• Cut leaf shapes from light green foam (I just did rounded triangles) and glue onto hat band

• Cut 2 thin strips from dark green foam for stems and glue into place

• Cut 8 flower petals from yellow foam

• Glue 4 petals into place on top of leaves and stems

• Glue final 4 petals atop first 4 in an alternating pattern

• Cut a circle (I traced a quarter--no lie) from brown foam and glue to center of flower

Have a little who wants to wear her hat? Poke holes in either side with a pen and insert string or elastic to go around her head. I mean, yeah yeah.

Food

I mean, get a Whitman's Sampler. Because it's chocolate. And if you want to make it really fun, let your littles anticipate it like the nieces do in the book. Have a scavenger Hunt! Print out this simple scavenger hunt and place the clues around your house so your littles can hunt down their chocolate. How fun is that?
