This book would not be possible without Mr. Artie Falk of FDNY Ladder Company 24 who conducted this rescue and Patricia, his daughter, who proudly told me the story.

As a young firefighter, the chief attempted to rescue a man from the fifth floor of a burning tenement building in New York City.  The man was so scared he would not step out onto the ladder to safety.  What the Chief did next to rescue the man amazed Bob and Big Joe and impressed Uncle Rocky.
